1. Coming of age ceremony

This ceremony is called "Seijin-shiki" in Japan. This is an event to celebrate people who became adults.

Most women wear kimonos called furisode and most men wear suits. Also, they can meet their old friends again for the first time in a long time.

2. Shichi-go san

The festival is for boys aged three and five, and girls aged three and seven.

Children dress up in kimonos, dresses, or suits. Most families go to shrines and pray for the healthy growth of their children.

Also, on shichi-go-san, children eat long red-and-white stick candy, called "Chitose ame."
